Goodbye Uncle Ed
So we got word from my Great Aunt yesterday that Uncle Ed passed away. At 91 though, he lived a good long life and now he's dancing with angels in heaven and his diabetes is gone! He's visiting with his brothers, his parents, aunts, uncles and all that have gone before him. I will sure miss Uncle Ed as he was like a Grandpa to me. This is a picture from April 2008 when we were out to visit...love this picture!
What is up with this aging business & why are my pores getting so big!?
So a friend from work was telling me that by not washing your face at night, you're causing your pores to get bigger. HOLY SMOKES I thought, I can't tell you the last time I washed my face at bedtime! It's no wonder my pores are getting more noticable!
I did a search today to see what I could find on the internet for help in reducing these babies! This is one website I found that had some natural remedies to try.
• Tomato has toning agents in it. If tomato juice has been applied on the skin regularly with a cotton ball and left for 20 minutes, helps in reducing the size of the pores. It shrinks the pores and makes them appear visibly smaller. You can add tomato juice to calamine powder or sandalwood powder, which are good to tone up the skin, which helps in even reducing the size of the pores. These packs help skin to reduce the sebum production and it helps in decreasing the size of the pores.
• Mashed papaya applied on the skin helps in toning the pores. You can directly apply a mashes papaya on your skin or can put it over a gauge. You need to wash it off with lukewarm water.
• White portion of the egg has skin toning and complexion enhancing ingredients. Whipped egg yolk applied on the skin with a few drops of lemon juice, improves the tone of the skin and reduces the pore size. This pack is extremely good for Middle Ages women.
• Honey is equally good to tone up the pores and reduce the oiliness from the skin. It can be applied in any of the facemask or can be directly applied on the skin with a little lemon juice and sugar to it. You can massage it on face and leave it for few minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Honey added to milk powder too helps if applied on the skin.
• A paste made of salt and butter is helpful in reducing pore size if applied on them.
• Regularly use toner on your skin with a cotton ball. To some extent it helps in temporary reducing the size of the pores.
• Oatmeal and gram flour are good toning substance. You can add a little lemon juice, rose water and curd to them and apply on the skin. Wash this pack off when it dries. It tones the pores and enhances the complexion.
• If you have breakouts on your skin then avoid using lemon juice or any such thing on your skin without a doctor's knowledge. Calamine powder and sandalwood powder are safe to be applied on the pimples or acnes.
• Always remove make up while going to bed. Never sleep with your make up on. Let the skin breath. Heavy make up left on the skin for long hours too increase the size of the pores.
• If you do wax your face, you have more chances to get open pores so always be careful while doing it. Always make sure that you apply a soothing face pack based on calamine or sandalwood on your face after waxing it to close the pores.
• You can rub an ice cube on your skin wrapped in a cotton cloth on your face to temporary reduce the size of the pores. Ice shrinks the size of the pores and it's a good way to make the pores appear smaller if you are going somewhere out as it even decreases the oil production on the skin for sometime.

CARAMEL...

LOVE LOVE LOVE carmel & about a month ago I discovered what I really think is THE best caramel ever! I am out right now and can't stop thinking about this carmel! I have a bottle on teh way & seriously I don't think it can get here soon enough!

It's from Tastefully SImple and it is so buttery and sinfully delicious! I finally busted open my jar & made this dessert on New Years Eve - SO good!!
Caramel Fudge Molten Cake
Submitted by Rosemary (MN) HQ Resident Chef

2 eggyolks
Truffle Fudge Brownie Mix
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter
1 jar Creamy Caramel Sauce, divided
Directions
Whisk eggs and egg yolks until foamy. Stir in Truffle Fudge Brownie Mix and melted butter; mix well. Fold in 1/2 cup Creamy Caramel Sauce. Line 12 muffin cups with paper cupcake liners; spray liners with nonstick cooking spray. Fill about 3/4 full of batter. Bake at 400° for 10-12 minutes or just until edges are set. Center will be slightly dry but still jiggly. Cool in pan 5 minutes. Microwave remaining Creamy Caramel Sauce 20-30 seconds or until warm. Drizzle sauce over each small dessert plate. Place a cake upside down over sauce; carefully remove paper. If desired, sift a little powdered sugar over the top of the cake. Makes 12 servings.
Temple Grandin - movie for HBO
(Clare Danes as Temple Grandin)I had never heard of Temple Grandin, nor this movie. We caught the premiere of it Saturday night on HBO and it was WONDERFUL! This woman was able to achieve things that the Dr's tried telling her mother would never happen. They told her best to put her in an institution. HUGE pat on the back for her mother being so strong and refusing to believe them! She pushed Temple to be better and had the saying "differnet but not less" and that was (IS) so true! I also loved when Professor Carlock took such an interest in her and think that was such a helpful way of helping her to understand things when he explained to her about the doors of opportunity and walking through them. This movie was amazing and I really hope she gets an award for her acting in this movie as it was superb! The whole cast really was amazing. The way the explained what Temple sees with the flashing pictures, that was an incredible way to help those of us who know nothing about autism get an idea on how it works in their head a bit. This is a must see movie! Temple now teachers at a school in Colorado, though I can't remember where.

Grooming and little boys
So I send out this picture, darling I must say, of my baby boy the other day. OK, so he's 4 and he's hardly a baby anymore! One emailed back & said she loves how I've always got his hair groomed & he always looks so cute etc. So this morning as I'm coming into work I'm thinking this could either be really good for him later in life or it may totally backfire on me! What if he gets to the age of 10 or so, as I'm told by so many with little brothers or boys of their own, the he rebels & doesn't care about taking showers or fixing his hair. Or I could have created a monster & he'll be really anal about always looking good & having hair gel or pomaide with him! HA...who knows. At least he looks good for now! Love my baby boy & our morning routine! I fix his hair, wash his face, put some lotion on his face, and we brush his teeth. Doesn't get this same routine though when Dad's getting him ready, just Mom!
Heidi Collins is gone from CNN!
So I've been wondering the past couple of weeks where Heidi Collins went. So this morning I decided to Google it to see...and sad, sad news - January 15th was her last day. I loved her & her hair was so cute! Not as big a fan of the gal that took over. Anyways, hope Heidi goes on to bigger and better things and has a wonderful life with her family! Would love to see her back on the TV again as an anchor on a morning talk show or news show.
These are a couple of the hairstyles taht are cute on her, but I loved her hair the past month or two before she left. So sad that I won't get to see her in the mornings now!

Blaster - G Force
Who are we to take their rights away?

Yep, I'm a Christian, but just b/c it's not right according to the Bible, why does that mean that Government should be able to rule to take the right away from someone to get married. Man to man, woman to woman or man to woman. Who's choice should it be? I say to each his own. It's not hurting you b/c your lesbian neighbors want to get married or your gay coworker. It's everyone's decision for themselves. Focus on your own marriage instead of worrying about others.

Trying to stay young!
So I see an article on our local news website today that peaked my curiousity - Mysterious fruits reverse aging, improve health. So I clicked on it.
Do you remember the last time you saw an old friend and were amazed to see how fast they have aged? The reason might be in their diet.
A team of nutritional researchers from southern California have completed a five year study that shows people who consume more antioxidants appear to age at a 47 percent slower rate than those who don't.
"Antioxidants slow the rate at which cells divide," says nutrition expert and director of Allmera Nutraceuticals Ron Slavick. "The faster your cells divide due to diet, stress or pollution, the faster you will age."
This is why Slavick has kept his team focused on a product called Proleva. Proleva is a capsule formulated by a team of scientists in Seattle Washington that you take once a day to give your body the extra antioxidants you need to restore your health, vitality and youthful appearance.
A single dose of Proleva contains the antioxidants found in eight of the most powerful superfruits, antioxidants that have been shown to increase eye sight, improve your immune system, support your cardiovascular health, boost short term memory, increase brain function and return the youthful glow to your skin and hair
After 2 to 3 months, nearly all Proleva customers report more energy, healthier-looking skin, deeper sleep, less sick time and better short-term memory. The reason is believed that their body is finally getting the antioxidants they need to balance the effects of poor diet, stress and pollution.
Dr. Laurence Meyerson, a professor at New York University School of Medicine, agrees. "It is likely that the components of Proleva's unique formulation may very well produce additive or even synergistic biological effects in the body." Meyerson says.
It is well known that people don't consume enough antioxidants. In fact a 2008 dietary survey shows that on average Americans receive less than 25% of their recommended antioxidants intake each day. This dietary shortcoming is a major contributor to poor health, lack of energy, weakened brain function and accelerated aging.
Wellness consultant Sonja Hawley agrees. "If you want to feel healthy and look younger, you must start by healing your body from the inside." Hawley continues "Proleva gives my clients the nutrients found in eight of the most powerful superfruits for less than a cup of coffee each day."
If you want to try this amazing product for yourself you can order a 10-day trial of Proleva online by visiting www.Proleva.com The company has advised that these free samples won't last long so order yours today, it only takes about 1 to 2 minutes to submit your address and billing information.

I thought why not see what foods are high in antioxidants though rather than getting sucked into another scam (as I did with the Colon Cleanse & Acaii Berry pills) and end up fighting charges with my bank and having to get a new debit card! So after I googled foods high in fiber, I wound up here:

There are numerous choices for antioxidant-rich foods, but which ones are really the best? The USDA tested over 100 foods from all categories and developed an authoritative list of the top 20:
