Life doesn't always work out the way you thought it would as a little girl...

Sangria...my girl Robbie's recipe

Large mag size bottle of red wine

2 lemons

2 oranges

2 limes

4 tablespoons sugar

Splash of orange juice

2 shots of gin or triple sec (I use triple sec)

2 cups strawberries or raspberries

1small can if diced pineapple (with juice from can)

8 cups of Ginger ale

Note-this is the doubled version of the recipe, cut in half for personal use. If your having a crowd use this version because people love it!!! Another thing, half the time I don't make it with pineapple or berries and it's just as tasty.

Put wine in pitcher, cut citrus fruits in half and squeeze juices into wine. After juiced toss fruit rind into pitcher as well. Add pineaple and berries and sugar and triple sec or gin and let sit in fridge overnight. Before serving add in Ginger ale stir and serve on ice.

BED BUGS at The Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City!

So after a year of telling our son "we'll go there....we'll go next winter".  It finally arrived...We'd made reservations for one night over Spring Break with some good friends of ours.  We got a loft room so that all 7 of us could just share the cost of one room.  one night, no big deal right?  Little did we know...we would be sharing the room with a few extra guests!  THANK GOODNESS we didn't see them while we were there or we'd all of been freaking out!  The pictures I ahve seen on the internet since I started researching these little things since yesterday are just disgusting!

Here's our story...

We checked into the Great Wolf Lodge in KC, KS on March 11, 2012 and stayed for one night. We were in a loft room with another family.  My 6 year old son and I stayed on the fold out sofa bed.  Approximately two days after we checked out I noticed bites all over my son and mine started appearing approx. four days after check out.  It wasn't until March 20th that I started to piece things together and thought this might be bed bug bites.  I went to the Dr. that day and it was confirmed that they are in fact bed bug bites.  I have reported it to the GWL and am hopeful that they will treat correctly for the problem so that other families don't go through this.  PRAYING that they did not attach to our PJ's & into our bag!  I have heard that they are nearly impossible to get rid of once they get into your home. 

Another part to the story that I think is strange...the family that was with us ran into some friends while we were there.  The following Sunday at church the gal asked her if the kids had any strange reactions from their stay.  When we found out about the bed bug bites, my friend & I put two and two together that her daughter must have also gotten bit out there! 

These pictures are of my son's nearly a week after we first discovered them and there is 1 of some of my bites five days after they first appeared.

I made these for my son's birthday party last Fall & last week had a rush of folks looking for fun stuff for Dr. Suess's birthday and was emailing this all over!  Had been trying to figure out a way to put these out there so that anyone could get them without having to wait for me to email.  you never know when you may just need a Dr. Suess bingo card!  HA...

Abortion...where do you stand?

I grew up in a very republican home, but always have had the feelings of freedom of choice in regards to abortion for as long as I can remember having an opinion about it.  I was driving to work one day when I saw a bumber sticker that said:
“It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish” – Mother Teresa

That really made me think.  It really is a selfish choice that women were making to have abortions.  Not all of course, but it really got me thinking about abortion. 
I don't know how they say it's not a life that you're taking.  At 4 to 10 weeks - organs are developing - that is alive.  If it wasn't alive it wouldn't be "growing".

Week 2

Fertilization, the joining of the sperm and the egg in the fallopian tube (below) to form a unique human being, occurs. Forty-six chromosomes provide the blueprint for the embryo’s physical characteristic

 Week 3

At this point, the blastocyst, or developing embryo, is looking for a spot to implant in the uterus. Early formation of the central nervous system, backbone, and spinal column has begun. The gastrointestinal system has also begun to develop with the kidneys, liver, and intestines forming. The heart has begun to form.

Week 4

Hormones produced by the embryo stop the mother’s menstrual cycle.

Week 5

The embryo’s tiny heart begins to beat by day twenty-one. The brain has developed into 5 areas and some cranial nerves are visible. Arm and leg buds are visible and the formation of the eyes, lips, and nose has begun. The spinal cord grows faster than the rest of the body giving a tail like appearance which disappears as the embryo continues to grow. The placenta begins to provide nourishment for the embryo.

Week 7
Major organs have all begun to form. The embryo has developed its own blood type, unique from the mother’s. Hair follicles and nipples form and knees and elbows are visible. Facial features are also observable. The eyes have a retina and lens. The major muscle system is developed and the embryo is able to move.

 Week 8
The embryo is reactive to its environment inside the amniotic sac where it swims and moves. Hands and feet can be seen. At the end of week 8, the embryonic period is over and the fetal stage begins.

Week 9 - 12

The heart is almost completely developed and the heart rate can be heard on a Doppler machine at the doctor’s office. Most major organs and tissues have developed and red blood cells are now produced in the liver. The face is well formed and the eyes are almost fully developed. The eyelids will close and not reopen until the 28th week. Arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes are fully formed. Nails and earlobes start to form and tooth buds develop in the gums. Fetus can make a fist with its finger. Testosterone (male sex hormone) is produced by the testes in male fetus.

I can not see how someone could have an abortion at any stage of a pregnancy. It's a human life and taking life is murder.  Funny how things change in your mind with age...



SOME kids in America today just don't get it!

Because of the focus on "it's my right" that so many American's are focused on today - we are going to end up with a generation of dependent, inconsiderate adults that are SELFISH...all about ME.  These kids need a good swift kick in the ass & their parents too!   Get off your ass & show respect for our country!  And show respect and appreciation to the men and women that have given their lives so you could have yours!

Welfare Check...urinalysis?

HECK YEA!  I can't believe anyone is able to collect a check, yet you can't be smokin' pot or doin' drugs to get a job!  Random drug testing at work - yes.  And I'm perfectly OK with that.

HMMM...I wonder if others think like me

So does it make me a bad person to think that I really do have the best in recipes, dress my kid so much cuter than you or you, know the best ways to clean, wouldn't dare let my kid do that or go our dressed (or rather what they're not wearing), know the best places to shop, etc...

Does that make me a snob? 

I don't claim that the recipes are my creation by any means - I always give credit where credit is due.  I can guarantee you mine is better than yours.  And when I do a dinner party - let's just go from this list of recipes and stick with what I have in my head for the nights menu.  Cookie exchange - Can't we have a list of cookies & we all pick one from that?  Can I just plan that party for you?  LOL...am I really that set in my ways?  Yes, I think so...As hard as I'm trying to break out of that & be FLEXIBLE, it doesn't always seem to work does it? 

Just like the way my mom does it is better than the way your Mom did it.  You don't use a dish rag - gross!  You use a sponge.  Like that really makes a difference?  In the scheme of things, not really!  Funny that I actually think about stuff like that though!

I guess it's the controlling part of my personality!  Man, I need a pill that makes me just CHILL OUT and let it slide...
