Independence Day, it's just around the corner!

I just love our American flag! That red, white and blue...the older I get the prettier I think it becomes. Maybe it's just an appreciation for more things with age?
When I think of the 4th of July, I think of family, parades, and BBQ's! I think of being at my Grandparents house as a kid & lighting off fireworks in the backyard there in Omaha. My cousins are 6 and 7 years older than I am, and my sister is 6 years older as well. My Dad, he was a big kid himself & enjoyed shooting them off!
I also love this Lee Greenwood song, brings a tear to my eye and I think we couldn't be luckier to live anywhere else than right here in the United States of America! We are so blessed to have men and women that are willing to go fight for us to have the freedoms here at home that we have.

I think next year I would like to stay home again for the 4th as we have in the past. We won't be able to have a BBQ since we're staying at a hotel & I'll miss that. The past two years have been spent wtih friends & going to a parade adn out to watch fireworks with friends. I was really looking forward to that again this year, but our friends that host were having their sons tonsils out today so had to cancel this years festivities! Really bummed about that! Oh well...Happy 4th of July! May God bless you and your family!

Hard to belive it was 16 years ago today that my Dad was admitted into the hospital and he never came out. It was a crazy morning trying to get him up and dressed so my Mom could take him into see Dr. Bowen. I remember as I was helping him out to teh car he was asking him how my car was running. I was busy trying to make sure he didn't notice where I'd taken out my drivers side mirror! HA...Anyways, the admitted him into the hospital and I remember that tomrrow, it was Wed back in June of 1994, I called my sister to tell her it wasn't good & this was it she needed to get on a plane and get down to Edmond! This week, beginning with Father's Day is always such a hard week for me as I seem to relive the week year after year. It was daily for so long in the beginning that I would relive it over and over.
It's like I know I don't wish him back and it feels wrong to say that. But if my Dad hadn't passed away - my life wouldn't have gone like it has. My Mom wouldn't have moved back, I wouldn't have followed her to eventually lead me to Chad & get married to have Tanner today. So, I know that my Dad did die for a reason and it's all part of God's big plan! I sure do miss him at times though & think he would just love Tanner & be having a ball with him! That's what hurts the most I think! My son not getting to know his Grandpa Denny!

Our annual summer picnic - carnival themed!

So as the President of the Parents Association at my son's school - I am in charge of planning the annual summer picnic. This year I decided to go with a carnival theme & I think we'll go this route going forward! It was so much fun! Even if we were forced to have it inside as it POURED outside and we didn't get the moonwalk, the kids had a ball! I got the best ideas from Parents Magazine! A couple of years ago they had a big spread on a carnival themed kids birthday party. I also found the photo board idea on Family Fun & my VERY talented sister drew & painted this for us!

Happy 25th Birthday Goonies!

OK, so I LOVED this movie as a kid, still do today! I can't even tell you how many times I've seen the movie. When I heard that Goonies turned 25 this week, it brought back a lot of memories & now I'm thinking I'll have to watch the movie this weekend! Check out this story I found http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/ae/articles/2010/06/13/20100613goonies0613.html
LOVED Sean Astin after I saw this movie and Kerry Green too! Not sure who I thought was cuter - Sean Astin or Josh Brolin?! OH and Steven Antin - HOLY SMOKES, I thought he was great after seeing him in The Last American Virgin!
Anyways, The Goonies will go down in my book as being one of the best movies ever!

A few memorable quotes:

Mikey: Goonies never say die

[Chunk glued the statue's penis on upside-down]
Chunk: How's this?
Mikey: Oh, you idiot! You glued it on upside-down!
Brandon Walsh: If God made it that way, you'd all be pissing in your faces!
Chunk: Looks fine to me.

[Brand and Andy are about to kiss after falling down]
Chunk: Shame, shame!
Data: I know your name!
Mouth: Come on, Brand! Slip her the tongue!
Stef: Oh, that's disgusting. Now I can't even look.

Mouth: You got it. What's going down guys? Hey, what's the matter with you guys?
Come on? What's the matter? What is this, a nuclear Saturday or something?
Come on, guys. This is our last weekend together, last "Goonie" weekend.
We got to be goin' out in style, cruisin' the coast, sniffin' some lace, downin'
some brews...but nooo. The one older brother had to go and screw it up, by
flunking your driver's test? (Brand takes a swing at him) Don't know what to do with ya, kid.

Andy: Brand... What happened to your braces?
Brandon Walsh: Braces? I don't wear braces, Mikey wears bra... Mikey! That little...
Andy: Shhh!
[kisses him again]

Happy Birthday Pac-Man!

You're 30?! My oh my, however can this be!? That's means I was 7 when you came into my life Mr. Pac-Man!? WOW...now that makes me feel A LITTLE old. And I do say only A LITTLE! I have always loved Pac-Man. had many a blister from playing Pac-Man! I tend to get very very into my game! I actaully have a friend that is doing one of her sons rooms with Pac-man! How fun would that be to have Pinky, Inky, Blinky & the guys being chased on your walls by Packman!

and how great are these!? Wish I'd of known about it being Pac-Man's birthday before hte day was half over & maybe I'd of done something fun like this! OK, so mine wouldn't have looked this good, but still I would have had fun trying to make them!

Freedom Bundle

LOVE anything patriotic & this is such a great idea that they came up with the star top for the Candy Shoppe warmer! When this came out (the striped warmer itself) for December, all I could think of with this was setting it out in July for the 4th of July & I wanted to set blue stars out by it! Anyways, SUPER cute & June 1st, I'll be ordering one for my house!

Teacher Appreciation Week 2010

We had something special each day of the week during Teacher Appreciation 2010! It was a lot of work planning & getting everything coordinated, but so worth it & I love how well it all came together!
Monday: fresh flowers, cupcakes that looked like apples & a banner

Tuesday: a gift card tree

Wednesday: homemade breakfast items and juice brought in by parents
Thursday: cute bags of trail mix with a saying saying thank you for keeping our kids on the right path & apple Jones soda

Friday: picture frames personalized for the various teachers with their classroom's picture in them and cards signed by the kids. For the administration on the last day I had cookies that looked like glue bottle made up at Cookies By Design & then attached tags to them that said "You're part of the glue that keep the school held together so tight"!

Here are a few of the picture frames...

Mother's Day 2010

One of Tanner's past teacher's pulled him to make this for me & it's one of the best Mother's Day gifts ever! I love personalized things like this!

Comfort, Christmas and Childhood

All three things come to mind when I see this picture of my son.

It was Christmas morning & he was dressed at ready to go to the first Grandma's house and enjoying a movie with his new Spiderman pillow while we got ready. He was comfy laying on our bedroom floor & just cozied up and enjoying himself. AHHH, to be that comfy & relaxed just staying indoors while the snow comes down like crazy outside! We had a wonderfully white Christmas this year! So white, that a lot of people couldn't get out, including my sister in law & my husband had to go pick her & the kids up! Also, first Christmas in the 10 Christmas's we've had where we needed to drive the truck (or even SUV as he's always had before) b/c my Toyota wasn't getting through it! Cars were getting stuck all over town. It was the most WONDERFUL Christmas I can remember in a long time! I love snow during the Holiday's!
